aluminium hydroxide or Alumina Tri Hydrate is the hydrated oxide of Aluminium. aluminium hydroxide is separated from ore— bauxite using Bayer process with average particle size ranging from 90 – 110 Micron. The blocky crystals of aluminium hydroxide impart good reactivity. aluminium hydroxide can react with a base as well as an acid and finds many applications as raw material. Some of the applications are Aluminium Sulfate, Poly Aluminium Chloride (PAC), Aluminium Fluoride (AlF3), Sodium Aluminate, Glasses, Catalysts, Refractories, etc. Aluminum hydroxide is decomposed by dehydration at 200-350°C, accompanied by substantial heat absorption. Therefore, aluminum hydroxide filled in rubber, plastic, cable or paper minimizes its temperature increase even if heated, promotes self-extinguishing performance, and reduces the release of fumes. In addition, aluminum hydroxide generates no poisonous gas and consequently functions as an excellent flame- retardant filler.
